Valley ENT/ Harrisonburg Dermatology
This two-phase project called for
construction of clinical
space for two medical practices in a former warehouse/
retail space. The client’s wanted waiting areas that were
fun and took advantage of the ample ceiling height and
exposed structure. In the waiting areas, a floating ceiling
grid reveals the steel structure and systems above. To
further animate the waiting areas the walls enclosing the
business areas are “cranked” 13 degrees while floor and
ceiling grids play off each other. Beyond the door leading to
the exam rooms, staff efficiency and patient privacy govern
the layout. First to move in, Valley ENT constructed a 3500
SF suite consisting of four exam rooms, offices and other
support areas. The suite includes an audiology lab with a
prefabricated hearing test booth. Harrisonburg Dermatology
followed a year later with 2160 SF and five exam rooms.
Features unique to the dermatology practice include
skylights bringing daylight to interior spaces, a display
cabinet for skin-care products and careful placement of lights
in exam rooms for even illumination of patients’ skin. The
full build-out was complete in 2006.
